Vice Adm. Jan Tighe, the former deputy chief of naval operations for Information Warfare and the 66th director of Naval Intelligence, is a member of the MITRE Board of Trustees.

Tighe also served as commander of U.S. Fleet Cyber Command, directing operations and defense of networks, signal intelligence operations, and offensive cyberspace operations. Earlier, she was president of the Navy Postgraduate School and was director of operations for the U.S. Cyber Command.

Previous tours include duty with Naval Security Group Activities in Florida, Virginia, and Japan, and Naval Information War Activity. Tighe also had staff assignments with the Headquarters of the Pacific Fleet, Naval Security Group, and Naval Network Warfare Command.

Tighe retired from the Navy in 2018. She wears both the Information Warfare Pin and Naval Aviation Observer Wings, earned while deployed in the Persian Gulf during Operations Desert Shield/Storm. Tighe was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal (two awards), Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Strike/Flight Air Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), as well as the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

Tighe holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the U.S. Naval Academy. She studied Russian at the Defense Language Institute and graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School with a master’s degree in applied mathematics and a doctorate in electrical engineering.

A member of the Acquisition Professionals Community, Tighe holds a Level III Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act certification in program management. She is an independent director at Goldman Sachs, the Huntsman Corporation, and Progressive Insurance. Tighe also sits on the board at IronNet Cybersecurity and the United States Naval Academy Foundation.
